Galway Film Fleadh | 8th - 13th July
A six day international film event held every July, welcomes a mad diversity of filmmaking from around the world. The Fleadh is very much a filmmakers' festival, and attracts directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds, who present their work before their peers. The Fleadh’s diverse audience is made up of the general cinema going public, film buffs, student filmmakers, industry professionals and invited guests.

Galway Arts Festival |17th – 30th July
Over its 30 year history the Festival has become a vital showcase for Irish arts and international arts and is now firmly established as Ireland’s leading arts festival. Regarded as one of Europe’s key cultural events Galway Arts Festival is an international celebration of the performing and visual arts. Over 100,000 people attend the Festival annually with hundreds of writers, artists, performers and musicians creating theatre, spectacle, street art, music, comedy, literature and music to produce a stunning fortnight of cultural activity and celebration.

Roundstone Regatta| 19th – 20th July 2008
Roundstone Regatta is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, traditional sea festivals in the West of Ireland, dating back to the 1890s. It incorporates both traditional sailing vessels of the West Coast (Galway hookers), and currach racing (rowing) from the traditional timber Currachs to the canvas racing Currachs and Naomhoga.. Along with all the sea-based competitions, there is plenty of action on land to also keep people entertained - traditional music and dancing attract a big audience over the course of the two-day festival.

Galway Races - Summer Festival | 25th – 31st July
The Galway Races has become the greatest of all Irish Racing Festivals and probably the most lavish, colourful and sociable fixtures in the Irish Racing World. It is not only a great sporting event, but also a unique social occasion filled with atmosphere, passion and craic, and attracts both the true racegoer and socialites alike. The excellent racing, oyster bars, champagne and beer tents, jazz bands, trade stands, race card competitions and even a best-dressed lady competition on Thursday, combine to ensure there is something for everyone and be part of what is truly an unforgettable experience.

Galway Triathlon | 19th July 2008
The Galway triathlon takes place on the 19th of July. If you have entered the race then why not stay in the Clybaun hotel in Galway city? The Galway Triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run. The 2008 is set to take place in scenic Cill Chiaráin in Connemara and will prove to be a huge test of fitness for all competitors.

Omey Races | 4th August 2008
Omey Races (horse racing on the beach) on Omey Strand,a few miles from Clifden, in the western edge of Connemara. The start time depends on the tide but usually around 11.30 am, and of course the finish time also depends on the tide. Omey Island is about a mile long by a mile wide. Among the sand dunes on the island lie the ruins of a small medieval church, which stands on the site of a monastery, founded by St. Feichin, in the seventh century.
Connemara Pony Show |18th August 2008
The largest display of the finest Connemara Ponies in the world takes place in Clifden, Connemara, Ireland, on the third Thursday of August every year. The Show has been organized by the Connemara Pony Breeders Society since 1924 and over 400 ponies travel from all over the country to take part in this unique event.

FUTURE Streets of Galway 8k Road Race | 9th August 2008, 7:00pm
This year Galway City Harriers will be hosting the FUTURE Streets of Galway 8km Road Race at 7pm on Saturday 9th August 2008. They are introducing some changes this year including on-line entry, an earlier start time, chip timing and changes to the start and finish areas to accommodate the timing equipment. All race entries this year are being handled by Run Ireland. Race packs will issue through them starting mid-July. Galway Races - Autumn Festival | 8th – 10th September 2008

Clarenbridge Oyster Festival | 12th – 14th September 2008
The Clarenbridge Oyster Festival has for many years been established as a premier event of top-class international entertainment accompanied by fine culinary delights.
A week-long entertainment event incorporating a traditional market day, golf outings, art exhibitions, yacht races, fine wine and gourmet evenings.
Galway International Childrens Festival | 13th - 19th October 2008
Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is recognised as the leading Irish arts festival devoted exclusively to children with an attendance record of over 72,000 since its foundation in 1997. For the last ten years, one week in October has been devoted to presenting high quality national and international arts performances and workshops for children in and out of schools and families. Venues in and around Galway are used for the presentation of this festival with selected artists travelling out to county schools, youth centres and community centres. Our aim is to advocate access to high quality arts experience for children in the community and in their schools. We also encourage the creation of new work by Irish artists through co-productions and original productions for children. Baboró is a registered charity supported by the Arts Council of Ireland

Tulca | 7th - 23rd Nov, 2008
Tulca is an annual Galway City and County based season of contemporary visual art exhibitions, live-art performances, discussions & talks that aim to offer opportunities to local, national and international artists. Galway as a meeting place for artists was implicit in the theme of TULCA 2006 (within and without) and was expanded in TULCA 2007 with Hospitality (city of Strangers). TULCA 2008 manifests itself as a collection of works spread across a range of conventional and un-conventional venues.
